Our commitment to accessibility

The National Transport Commission (NTC) is committed to providing information that is accessible to everyone. We aim to ensure all users can access our website regardless of the technology they use or their individual access needs.

Accessibility standards

The NTC website is currently being reviewed and updated to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA.

We are assessing and improving accessibility. As the work progresses, we will update this statement with further information about our conformance status and any accessibility barriers that remain.

What we are doing

As part of our accessibility improvement work, our current and planned actions include:

  • Reviewing website pages, published documents and online consultation processes against WCAG 2.2 up to Level AA requirements.
  • Improving page structure, headings, navigation, keyboard access, colour contrast, readability and compatibility with screen readers and other assistive technologies.
  • Providing appropriate text alternatives for images and ensuring tables use appropriate headers and structure.
  • Improving the accessibility of PDFs, prioritising current public consultations and other important or frequently used information.
  • Providing important information in accessible HTML or another format where a PDF is not accessible.
  • Improving the accessibility of multimedia content through captions, transcription or audio descriptions, as appropriate.
  • Incorporating accessibility requirements into future content and website changes.
  • Using automated and manual accessibility testing, including with assistive technologies, as the work progresses.

Known limitations

While we are working to improve accessibility across our website, some content may not yet meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA requirements. Current limitations include:

  • Some PDFs, including consultation documents and older or archived publications, may not work effectively with screen readers or other assistive technologies.
  • Some information may be available only in PDF and may not have an equivalent accessible HTML version.
  • Some legacy website pages may have issues with page structure, navigation or presentation.
