About the model law
The model law provides schedules of the annual registration charges and permit fees that are to apply to various heavy road transport vehicles. It shows the regulatory portion of registration and the road component of the annual registration charges for the financial year.
States and territories implement the model law through their own legislation and regulations.
The charges for the 2026–27 financial year are set out in the Heavy Vehicle Charges Amendment (Annual Registration Charges) Model Law 2026.
