Australian Dangerous Goods Code maintenance

shape

We review the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road & Rail (ADG Code) every two years. This is to align with international best practice and to meet changing user needs in Australia.

In May 2018, the Transport and Infrastructure Council approved version 7.6 of the ADG Code. These changes were effective from 1 July 2018 and compulsory from 1 July 2019.

States and territories have committed to amending their local dangerous goods laws to align with changes in edition 7.6 of the ADG Code.

Next steps

We expect to start the next review in the second half of 2019 and make recommendations to ministers in May 2020 to approve edition 7.7 of the ADG Code. This version will include UN edition 21 recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods.
